Couples Getaway in St. Pete Beach, Florida
Some beach towns are built for families. Some are built for parties. St. Pete Beach is built for couples.
It is walkable, it is relaxed, and it has the kind of sunsets that make you stop mid-sentence. If you are planning a romantic getaway, an anniversary trip, or just a few days away together, here is how to do St. Pete Beach right.
Why couples love St. Pete Beach
St. Pete Beach sits on Long Key, one of the Tampa Bay barrier islands, with miles of soft white sand and calm Gulf water. Everything a couple needs is close together: the beach, restaurants with live music, wine bars, and ice cream parlors for the walk home.
The pace here is the real selling point. Nobody is in a hurry. Mornings are for coffee on the balcony, afternoons are for the beach, and evenings belong to the sunset.
Where to stay as a couple
For a couples getaway, a one-bedroom condo beats a hotel room every time. You get a full kitchen for slow breakfasts, a living room to spread out in, a private balcony for morning coffee, and no hallway noise.
Look for a place within walking distance of both the beach and the restaurants, so the car stays parked all weekend. Our Majestic Beach Condo is a one-bedroom condo made for two: queen bed, sleeper sofa if you want the extra space, private balcony, heated resort pool, and Upham Beach about a three-minute walk away. Booking direct gets you our lowest rate, with no platform fees.
Romantic things to do
Watch the sunset at Upham Beach. This is the beach the locals use, and it faces due west for a straight-on Gulf sunset. Bring a towel, sit near the water, and stay until the sky goes pink. Details on parking and access: Upham Beach Park guide.
Walk Pass-a-Grille at golden hour. The historic district at the southern tip of the island has pastel cottages, small galleries, and an old-Florida feel. It is quiet, pretty, and made for hand-holding.
Find the Secret Garden. Walk to the far north end of Upham Beach and you will find a small tropical garden tucked behind the Envoy Point condos, kept up by a handful of volunteers on donations. Palms, flowers, shaded benches, and a view of the channel, with dolphins often passing offshore. No admission, but it closes right after sunset, so go at golden hour and stay on the public beach side. Quiet, and most visitors walk right past it.
Take a semi-private sunset cruise. The Semi-Private Sunset Cruise St Pete sails from Tierra Verde Marina for a two-hour evening cruise on a boat that takes just six people, so it feels personal. It glides past the luxury homes along the canals and around Tierra Verde, and dolphins often swim right near the boat. About $79 per person. Food and drinks are not provided, but you can bring your own since the boat has coolers. It holds a 4.9 rating across nearly 500 reviews, so it is a proven pick. Book a day or two ahead in season.
Browse the Corey Avenue Sunday Market. Local art, fresh food, and people watching, all within walking distance of the beach. A perfect slow Sunday morning.
Do nothing, together. Honestly, this is the main event. Beach chairs, a cooler, and nowhere to be.
Where to eat and drink
You never need the car for dinner here. A few favorites within walking distance of the north end of the beach:
- The Toasted Monkey (5-minute walk): the popular spot for live music, dancing, and waterfront drinks. Great for a fun night out together.
- Sola Bistro and Wine Bar (8-minute walk): intimate dinner spot.
- Adrian's Prime and Wine (6-minute walk): the nice intimate steakhouse pick. Family-owned, hand-cut steaks, fresh seafood, and a curated wine list in a cozy, softly lit room. Made for date night. Reservations recommended.
- Rick's Reef (8-minute walk): casual, famous for lobster fries.
- Buoys Waterfront Bar and Grill (6-minute walk): waterfront views, big screens for game nights.
When to visit as a couple
October through May is the sweet spot: warm days, low humidity, and the best sunsets of the year. February through April is peak season, so book early. September and October are quieter and often cheaper, with warm Gulf water still in the 80s.
Three to four nights is the perfect length for a couples getaway. Long enough to unwind, short enough to leave wanting more.
Good to know
- Check-in is 4 PM, check-out 11 AM, and the condo has an electronic lock so you can arrive on your own schedule.
- One free parking spot comes with the rental, and most couples never move the car.
- The condo is on the second floor with no elevator, something to know if stairs are a concern.
- No pets, no smoking, no parties. It is a quiet resort, which is exactly what a couples trip needs.
