Workation in St. Pete Beach: How to Combine Remote Work and a Beach Vacation

You do not need to burn all your vacation days to spend a week at the beach. If your job lets you work remotely, you can bring the work with you and still get the vacation. We call it a workation, and our condo in St. Pete Beach was practically made for it.

Here is how real guests make it work, plus the exact setup we provide so your workdays run smoothly between swims.

A day in the life: the solo remote worker

This is the most popular workation pattern we see. You wake up, grab coffee from our coffee bar, and take a morning walk on Upham Beach before you open your laptop. It is about a two minute walk from our front door. That walk sets a completely different tone for the day than commuting to a kitchen table at home.

Here is the part people love most: if a meeting is listen-only, take it on the walk. Earbuds in, camera off, waves in the background. Nobody knows you are watching pelicans dive while the quarterly update plays.

Then the real upgrade: skip the sad desk lunch. Close the laptop at midday, walk two minutes, and swim. You come back for afternoon calls feeling like a different person. Work ends, and you are already at the beach for sunset. No commute, no planning, no packing a beach bag. You live there that week.

One of you is on vacation, the other is working

This might be the best use case of all. One partner has vacation days, the other does not, but can work remotely. Instead of waiting for schedules to line up, you travel together anyway.

The vacationing partner gets full beach days: mornings at Upham Beach, afternoons at the heated pool, lunch at a Gulf Blvd spot like The Toasted Monkey or Buoys. The working partner gets quiet, focused work hours in the condo, then joins for every evening. Dinner together, sunset walks together, the whole trip together.

It beats the alternative, which is the working partner staying home alone while the other one posts beach photos.

The family version: kids plus one working parent

Same idea, with kids in the mix. Our condo sleeps four, so this fits a family of four perfectly. One parent takes the kids to the beach or the pool while the other works. Then you swap, or the working parent wraps up and the whole family has the evening together.

The kids get a beach week. The working parent does not burn a single vacation day. Everybody wins, and the parent who worked still got morning and evening beach time.

Your office setup in our condo

Fast, reliable WiFi. Video calls, large uploads, VPN, all fine. You can work from anywhere in the condo without hunting for a signal.

The dining table doubles as a work desk. It is a proper table with real chairs, plenty of space for a laptop plus a notebook or second screen.

We now provide a lap desk. Prefer the couch? The lap desk sits steady on your lap or on the couch cushions, with room for your laptop and a coffee. It is great for relaxed work sessions or evening catch-up.

A lap desk gives you another comfortable place to work when you want to move away from the table.

Work from the balcony. We can provide a small desk upon request that you can set up on our private balcony. Morning emails with a partial Gulf view and sea breeze beat any office. It also works as a second, separate workstation if two of you need to work at once without talking over each other.

A few practical tips

Take listen-only calls on the beach walk. Mute by default, unmute to talk. Wind can be an issue on very breezy days, so pick a calm morning.

Guard the quiet hours. If your partner or kids are on vacation mode, agree on which hours are heads-down. The balcony desk helps: one person works out there, the other works inside, and nobody is on top of each other.

Use a simple background for video calls. The condo looks great on camera, but if you are on the balcony, check what is behind you before you go live.

Plan around the sun, not the clock. Start a little earlier, take a long midday swim break, finish a little later. You are on beach time now.

Why St. Pete Beach works so well for this

Everything is close. Upham Beach is a two minute walk. Restaurants, coffee, and groceries are minutes away on Gulf Blvd. The Tampa Bay islands have that easy, flat, walkable beach town feel, so your whole day, work breaks included, happens on foot. And fall through spring brings the best air and water temperatures of the year, which is exactly when a workation sounds most appealing back home.
